The future of Agrifood in an evolving world

Revisiting the pivotal role of agriculture for environmental sustainability and ensuring universal access to wholesome, ecosystem-friendly food is imperative.

By contextualizing this within the framework of evolving global landscapes and emerging challenges and by emphasizing the fundamental right to nourishing, safe, and adequate food for all Earth’s inhabitants, we have collectively heightened our awareness of its significance.

The upcoming challenges

This emerging consciousness has highlighted the extent to which the present global agri-food system plays a significant role in climate change and, ironically, suffers the most from its consequences.

Approximately one-third of produced food goes to waste.

Malnutrition doesn’t exclusively affect over 700 million individuals who lack access to enough food; it also affects billions of individuals whose nutritional problem is due to poor dietary choices, which are a primary cause of diseases and death.

Additionally, we must consider the extensive land erosion resulting from the excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides.

The agrifood industry, especially agriculture, hasn't adopted innovation as effectively as other sectors, since the tractor's introduction.

This revelation underscored the leading role that the entire agri-food system can and must undertake in addressing challenges and achieving sustainability goals, especially considering global population growth, particularly in certain parts of the world.
